In Syndey, Australia, DJ Mac was resident at one of Sydney’s iconic RNB, Oldskool nights, “RedRoom”, where he was Known for his seamless mixes and eclectic selection spanning soul to hip-hop; Mac’s career highlights include supporting global stars and captivating radio audiences nationwide. Background

Based in Sydney, Australia, DJ Mac first ignited nightclub dance floors in 1997, working at clubs Gucci in Campbelltown, Flavourhood in Kings Cross and Castles in Sydney City. By early 1998, Mac had become an essential part of the budding Sydney club circuit and performed as a support act in his first series of concerts with overseas artists. With over five years of radio under his belt and almost 15 years behind the turntables performing at concerts and clubs and producing remixes and radio mixes, Mac continues to dominate and justify his position at the forefront of the evolving world of DJing.

As a music curator, DJ Mac has a wealth of musical knowledge that spans multiple decades and genres of soul, funk, R’n’B, new jack swing, hip-hop, rock, pop and neo-soul. DJ Mac plays an eclectic mix for crowds around the globe. Mac is recognized for his quick mixes, constant sampling, and teasing. Mac enjoys building the energy in his audience to near euphoric levels, taking them on a journey through the Motown years to the present. Crowds chanting lyrics at the top of their voice to songs they didn’t know they knew is a staple of any DJ Mac performance, making him one of Australia’s most sought-after DJs.

Concerts

Since 1998 Mac has toured as concert DJ and has been an official after-party DJ with a multitude of international recording artists such as 112, Allure, Next, Montel Jordan, Boyz II Men, K’Ci & JoJo, PM Dawn, Blackstreet, Snoop Dogg, Bobby Brown, Naughty By Nature, Lost Boyz, LL Cool J, Kelly Clarkson, Sean Kingston, Mandy Moore, Justin Timberlake, Joe, Ralph Tresvant, Horace Brown, Marques Houston, The Game, Kanye West, the Black Eyed Peas, Tanya Stephens, C+C Music Factory, Color Me Badd, Shai, Soul IV Real, Jon B & DJ Rectangle to name a few. Mac has also performed for some A-List Hollywood celebrities, describing as one of his career highlights performing in Melbourne for a surprise special guest and then turning around to see Nicholas Cage looking over his shoulder to see what Mac was doing on the decks.

Radio

Mac can be heard at noon daily (the Midday Mix with Mac) on Australia’s leading urban music commercial radio station, The Edge 96 One. Mac’s Old School Reunion mixes also play during the award-winning K-Sera & the Dirty Dozen show, during Club Edge and the Mix Masters Show on weekends. In addition, Mac’s mixes are played online or through digital radio players on The Edge Digital and K-Sera Radio. During 2006 and 2007 Edge 96.1 adopted a 100% urban music format following the success and massive listener response to the K-Sera & the Dirty Dozen Show (where Mac was the first DJ onboard contributing weekly mixes) and the daily mixes by DJ Nino Brown and DJ Mac, this led to Mac’s Old School Reunion mixes being played five times daily on the station, which was more than any other DJ. In 2011, DJ Mac’s Old School Reunion mixes were back daily, and DJ Nino Brown’s mixes were back weekly – another urban music revolution may be brewing, so stay tuned!

RADIO

At the beginning of 2010, Dubai’s Award-winning celebrity radio jock, Kris Fade, who hosts Dubai’s number 1 English-speaking breakfast radio program on Virgin Radio Dubai 104.4, approached DJ Mac with the idea of recording a weekly mix for the breakfast show to finish the week. Mac jumped at the opportunity to try his hand at the radio mixes, which were vastly different from the Old School Reunion mixes he is known for in Australia. The results have been astounding, with Mac producing an eclectic and varied arrangement of current pop, R’n’B, dance, rock and hip-hop weekly for Virgin Radio Dubai. The mixes continue to be played multiple times during the Award-winning Kris Fade breakfast show and at night during ‘Club Virgin’. DJ Mac is the only DJ contributing mixes to the UAE’s number 1 English-speaking radio station, and Mac looks forward to producing these mixes each week for his international fan base.

CURRENT CLUBS

At the core, DJ Mac is a thoughtful DJ who takes real pride in his professionalism and work ethic. He is recognized and revealed as one of the business’s hardest-working and most reliable DJs. In terms of club performances, Mac is the primary resident at the Red Room (old school RnB & New Jack Swing), which has set the standard for clubbing sophistication and exclusivity for the past seven years and is the reigning winner of the prestigious Urban Music Awards for Best Club Night in Australia. Mac is also a resident or regular guest DJ at Sile @ Club Marconi (90’s R’n’B and Dance & current Pop music), Levelz @ The Commercial Hotel (Current R’n’B, Hip-Hop and Old School) and Tequila (Latino, Reggaeton & RnB) and a string of other urban clubs and one-off events in and around Sydney. DJ Mac also held a monthly residency at Melbourne’s Playground Night Club @ Seven and has DJ’d at The Shack Nightclub in Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii. DJ Mac currently resides in Sydney, Australia.
